6 Top Tips To Go From Full Beard to Clean Shaven

It’s time to reach for the razor and opt for a clean-shaven look. Unkempt facial fluff is out and the smooth chin is back on trend. Beards are again the fodder of lumberjacks, bikers and 80’s tribute rock bands. But after spending countless hours cultivating your hipster facial hair, how do you go from full beard to clean shaven without looking like a spotty teenager who nicked his dad’s razor?

Fortunately, here at Cornerstone, impeccably clean shaven is what we do. Here are 6 tips for a smooth transition.

1. Preferably get rid of it in winter

It might sound counter-intuitive as you want that bushy beard to protect you from the elements, but shave it off in the summer and you risk the possibility of some rather funny tan lines on your face.

2. Use a beard trimmer or hair clippers to remove the bulk

Depending on how unruly you let your facial fuzz get, you might want to consider making a start with some hair clippers.

3. Wash your beard in warm water

Exfoliation is the key to an easy, cut-free shave, especially if you’re getting rid of a thick beard. So wash your beard in warm water (preferably in the shower) to open up your pores and soften those beard bristles. Our microbeads-free face scrub will also help release any in-grown hairs and lift your facial hair, making it easier to achieve a smooth, close shave.

4. Lather up with shaving gel or cream

Cover those bristles in a healthy amount of shaving gel or cream to add a layer of protection between the razor and your skin.

5. Use a new, high-quality razor blade

No hunting in the bathroom cabinet for your old, rusty pre-beard razor – here’s what you should be doing with your blunt razor blades instead. Invest in a new high-quality razor blade and remember to shave with the grain so as to minimise skin irritation and in order to achieve the closest, nick-free shave. That’s unless you like a face that looks like you had a fight with the cat – and lost.

6. Aftercare

Now you’re cleanly shaven you’ll want to keep your newly smooth chin well hydrated and looking sharp. Douse your chops in after-shave balm to soothe any soreness, and you’re good to go.
