Start Your Day Right- Gareth Lush from Gumball 3000

At Cornerstone we’re all about helping you kick-start your day. That’s why we’ve initiated  a series called Start Your Day Right where we talk to individuals to see what they do to start their day right, after all we all like to get our days off to a good start, right?

Today we’re talking to Gareth Lush, the Events and Production Manager at Gumball 3000 to find out more about his job and how he starts his day right. Headquartered in London’s Notting Hill, the Gumball 3000 Rally is the ultimate in uber-cool road tripping. The concept: a bunch of ‘A List’ celebrities and some of the world’s wealthiest socialites zoom across continents in the ultimate super cars, partying along the way. Sounds fun, right? If only us mere mortals could get involved.

This year’s event travels from Dublin, Ireland to Bucharest, Romania, with stopovers in Edinburgh, London, The Alps, Prague, and Budapest. Start your engines.

CS: So Gareth, tell us a bit about your morning routine. How do you start your day right?

GL: For every day I’m in the office, I’m off to Heathrow to catch a flight to one of our rally destinations. I get there months before the cars arrive to set-up. So my
morning routine has to be pretty military from a planning perspective. Bag packed the night before- hand luggage only- to avoid checking-in queues, boarding passes printed and travel size grooming products in a clear plastic wallet.

All your shaving, bathroom and healthcare needs – conveniently delivered to your door.

Get a smooth, comfortable shave every morning and never shop for bathroom toiletries ever again.

CS: Sounds hectic. What do you do every morning to be ready for all this?

GL: I like to jog to work on office days or a quick 30 minute run if my flight time is sociable. It gets the blood pumping and is a great way to wake up. I then take a hot shower and clean shave to feel my best and ready for anything.

CS: That’s quite a low maintenance grooming routine for the modern man. What products do you use daily?

GL: A good blast of antiperspirant and I swear by Original Source Spearmint shower gel – it tingles and you definitely feel awake after lathering up with it. I tend to avoid face scrubs, I find my skin is better left to its own devices. I style my hair with Fish Stone wax which you can pick up in travel sizes and a little spritz of Issey Miyake: L’eau D’Issey.

CS: You said you shave daily – what’s your routine and would you say this helps you start your day right?

GL: I shave straight out of the shower as I find that’s easier to get a good clean cut. A good razor is essential and a little after-shave balm to soothe my skin. It’s not essential that I’m clean shaven for work, but I think it projects a more professional image when meeting clients.

CS: What is one grooming tip you learned that you follow?

GL: I’d say that would be to shave with the grain. This is something I’ve started doing as I’m susceptible to irritation and soreness. It’s a slower process, but is easier on my skin.

CS: Finally, what’s the one thing you rely on to start your day right?

GL: I’m partial to a caramel latte to get me feeling
alert. Call it a rather embarrassing guilty pleasure .
