Ultimate Grooming Tips for the Groom

Wedding season is upon us so we thought we’d share our ultimate grooming tips for the groom so you’re looking your absolute best for your bride.

The groom and groomsmen need to look as good as the bridal party will. It’s not too difficult to be a well-groomed groom with a little bit of help, so here are our ultimate grooming tips for the groom (and his groomsmen) to make sure you’re looking your best on your big day.

Hair

Firstly, a don’t. Do not experiment with a new hairstyle on your wedding day. You don’t want all those pictures taken of you and have them ruined by a dodgy ‘do. If you’re thinking of a new style, try it out a couple months in advance, and if it doesn’t suit you, it’s not the end of the world. Hair always grows back… although not quickly enough to save you if you get it done too close to the day. Once you’ve picked a style, a week before the wedding, go and get it cut again so that it has a little time to grow in, but not so much that it’s unruly. Matte products work well with the camera, but go with your tried-and-tested products and whatever you feel comfortable with. There’s enough stress on the day as it is without worrying about your hair.

Face

Of course, you should look to trim all unruly hair: nose, ear, etc. Facial hair is just as important as your hairstyle. If you’re clean-shaven, getting a wet shave by a professional can be a great way to spend some time with your ushers and best man before the ceremony starts. Similarly if you sport a beard, you might want to leave it in the capable hands of a barber to trim it and style it. After all you want to make sure your beard or stubble is in check for the most important day of your life. Remember you want a smooth first kiss at the alter.

If you’re too close to the day to book your shave, or you fancy doing it yourself, use new blades. Old blades have a greater likelihood of catching your skin, leaving it irritated. You don’t want any nicks and cuts or shaving rash showing up on your wedding photos! We’d recommend taking your time and not rushing this. After there isn’t a huge amount of grooming that men do in comparison to the beauty prep the bride-to-be goes through, so taking the time to get your wet shave or stubble/beard tidy up is crucial. Prep your skin by exfoliating your skin after showering or using a hot towel on your face and follow this up with a good quality shave gel and fresh new razor blades. As a final step make sure to splash your face clean with some cold water so as to close your pores and prep the skin for a post-shave balm and moisturiser. Again, make sure you’re not using any products you’ve not tried at least a month in advance of your wedding day. You don’t want to find out that you’re allergic to that new moisturiser!

While there might be a hundred things to stress over when it comes to the planning and preparation of your day, one thing that should be relatively stress-free is looking your well-groomed best.
