The Alternative Stag Weekend

The Alternative Stag Weekend

Think stag do’s, think strip clubs, ‘Lads on Tour’ t-shirts and Jägerbomb world record attempts. But a bevy of discerning gentlemen can send the groom off in style with something more cultured than tying him to a lamp post with his underwear around his ankles.

With that in mind, we’ve scoured Europe for some slightly more sophisticated ideas that weren’t found in the back of FHM and might just be kosher enough to be referenced in the Best Man’s speech. STAG!

Wine Tasting, French Riviera

Saint-Tropez, Toulon, the French Riviera – traditionally it’s where the rich go to show off. But it’s also steeped in history for its great food, fine wine and sport. Yes the bay is filled with yachts bigger than the office and there’s a truffle season, but it’s a great place for a stag.

With beautiful weather, and vineyards that offer incredibly cheap accommodation, you can learn your syrah from your sauvignon, take in a rugby game at world famous Toulon and snaffle some of Europe’s finest cuisine.

Oktoberfest, Munich

Bavarian beer houses and steins filled with frothy cold lager. What’s not to like? Oktoberfest takes place every September…we’re still working that one out, in the German city of Munich.

Budget airlines fly there daily for little more than a weekly London travel card, so don’t worry about breaking the bank. Enjoy boisterous German music, bratwursts aplenty and a raucous atmosphere. Oktoberfest is an excellent excuse to drink your weight in beer, stag in style and tick something off the bucket list.

Links Golf, Ireland

The test of a true golfer is a good old-fashioned links course. Driving rain, blustery coastal winds, and a plethora of sand hazards. We’re not selling this to you are we?

Well, the golf courses in Ireland are regarded as some of the finest on the planet, emerald green fairways, miles of untouched beautiful coastline and rolling hills. Once you’ve putted home, Ireland does 19th holes like no other. Whatever corner of the country you’re in, they’ll be bottomless pints of Guinness, whiskey and traditional music that’ll have you riverdancing in no time.

So there you have it chaps, three alternative stag do ideas.
