Cornerstone Book Club

We’re avid readers here at Cornerstone HQ and always on the lookout for the next thrilling read so we thought we’d set up a Cornerstone Book Club where we can share some of our favourite books with you.

Ollie, Founder:

Current read: Nothing to Envy
A collection of short stories about people who escaped from North Korea. Reading about the distrust between people, the harsh police state, and the lack of basics like food and electricity, it makes you realise how lucky we are to be born in the West!

Lucy, Customer Care

Current read: The Moth
Based on the story-telling night, and podcast by the same name, The Moth publishes a series of stories, as they were told, from the mouths of those who experienced them. A perfect series of essays and incredible story-telling.

Di, Customer Care

Current read: As a Man Thinketh
A very short philosophical book about the power of thought.

Hélène, Customer Care

Current read: First Time Parent, by Lucy Atkins
It’s a down-to-earth guide to parenting which is very reassuring without being patronising. It’s quite funny, honest, well laid-out and most importantly it gives sound and sensible advice which makes the year ahead seem less scary.

Steve, Marketing

Current read: Not Fade Away, by Jim Dodge
“Floorboard” George  is part of a scam to wreck a mint condition ’59 Cadillac intended as a gift for The Big Bopper as a token of an admirer’s love. However when George disappears with the car, gangsters and cops are soon in hot pursuit. On the road he meets crazed characters, hitch-hikers and demented preachers as he covers many miles—and states of mind—in his quest to find the true spirit of rock n’ roll.  Read if it if you want to go on a ride.

Caspar, Marketing

Current read: Tram 83, by Fiston Mwanza Mujila
Set in a bar in an unnamed Congolese mining town, Tram 83 follows poet Lucien and his escapades with a cast of writers, drunkards, drug dealers and dreamers. Very gritty, but really really interesting.

Isida, Brand Marketing

Current read: The World Book of Happiness
100 leading experts in positive psychology  from 50 countries share the best ways to find and keep happiness in our lives.

Charles, Operations

Current read: Elon Musk: How the Billionaire CEO of SpaceX and Tesla is Shaping Our Future
This is an epic life story of the most impactful industrialist of our time who is deploying the greatest creativity, ingenuity, strength and determination mankind has ever witnessed in order to alter the course of human history and save us from extinction.
