Cornerstone Travel Bucket List

Now that summer holidays are on everyone’s mind, we thought we would ask around the Cornerstone office to find out what the team’s next adventures are. We’ve put together a bucket list of all the places we’d love to visit, and we’re sure you would love them too. Here are our recommendations, but don’t forget to share any of your own with us.

Watch The Stars, Chile’s Atacama Desert

Cornerstone travel bucket list: Atacama desert

The Atacama desert is one of the hottest, driest and most remote places in the world, making you feel like you’ve just landed in Mars. Expect no greenery, cities or even pollution but an amazing scenery tinted in a vast array of red hues. With three of the most important long-distance telescopes, it is also perfect for stargazing. Thanks to the lack of light pollution, on a clear night you can even spot the Milky Way!

Wilderness Cruise, Antarctica

Cornerstone travel bucket list: Antarctica

There are no hotels, no villages, no bars or pubs to go to, but just frozen, unpredictable and slightly dangerous wilderness. You can only reach it from November to March, the summer months of the Southern Hemisphere. How to get there? Your easiest option is to cruise around it where the vast emptiness and cold will trap and simply amaze you.

Cape Town, South Africa

Cornerstone Travel Bucket List: Cape Town

You can be in the city centre, and you’re still a stone’s throw from both the beach and the mountains. With vineyards serving delicious red wines, warm and sunny beaches, Mediterranean weather and amazing views from Table Mountain, Cape Town does have everything for a dreamy vacation. You’ll be able to see some wildlife in action too, including dolphins, penguins and even cheetahs!

Safari, Sub-Saharan Africa

Cornerstone Travel Bucket List: Safari

If what you’re really after is nature and wildlife, you must have dreamt of watching the African golden sunset. Given that it’s their natural habitat, a safari is way better than any zoo you could visit. Some amazing places to note are Kenya, Zambia or Tanzania; with tourist-friendly areas, you’ll find everything you need for a once-in-a-lifetime trip, including the best safari lodges, guides and natural reserves.

Dive The Great Barrier Reef, Australia

Cornerstone Travel Bucket List: The Great Barrier Reef

For the most adventurous, you might want to consider diving deep off the coast of Australia. The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system stretching for over 2,300 km. The World Heritage Site is home to over 1,500 different fish species, including 30 different whales, saltwater crocodiles and sharks. The best way to explore the natural wonder is snorkling or diving, but to understand the magnitude of the area, you can see the reef from a hot air balloon or helicopter ride.

Taj Mahal, India

Cornerstone Travel Bucket List: Taj Mahal

It’s not the stones that attract the 2 million yearly visitors, it’s the story behind it. It was completed in 1653 as a monument to the love that Emperor Shah Jehan had for his queen, after she passed away giving birth to their 14th child. The mausoleum is made out of white marble and decorated with precious stones sourced from all over Asia and transported to the site by over 1,000 elephants.

Northern Lights, Scandinavia

Cornerstone Travel Bucket List: Northern Lights in Scandinavia

If there’s one nature- based experience you should do it is to watch the Northern Lights. It may not be the warmest holiday, but it will be worth it. The best plan? Book yourself a husky trail to go up the mountains and camp out to watch the Northern Lights.
