It’s finally starting to feel like summer and our thoughts have turned to holiday planning. We’re lucky that when it comes to European summer holiday destinations, we’re never short of options- but how do you narrow it down to just one or two? After all, most of us are only lucky enough to get away for two weeks maximum at a time and even then work and financial commitments won’t allow us to have multiple summer holidays.
Some destinations lend themselves nicely to a short stay (perfect for that August Bank Holiday weekend), whereas others are ideal for a week or two. These first two destinations are worth considering for a long weekend away- but don’t get us wrong, we wouldn’t mind staying longer!
Nice
This is a no-brainer really. It’s not far away so travelling time is kept to a minimum, but at the same time it’s far away enough to make you feel like you’re on a proper holiday. Plus a little sunbathing on the French Riviera never hurt anyone.
Ibiza
Ibiza, the fun loving island, is the perfect short break destination. Whether you’re looking to party or have a relaxed weekend break, this island has got it all covered. We highly recommend a little trip to nearby Formentera if you’re looking for some rest in between the partying.
If you’re looking to go away for a longer period of time then the next couple of recommendations make for great long(er) summer holiday getaways.
The Amalfi Coast
If you’re looking for a mixture of beaches and mountains then the Amalfi coast, in Italy, is the ideal holiday destination for you. When you’ve had enough of the beach then opt for a hike, after all it is one of Italy’s top regions for hiking- you won’t be disappointed with the numerous trails to choose from. Once you’ve worked up an appetite head to any of the many charming local restaurants for some delicious fish dishes.
The Algarve
Another Cornerstone favourite is the Algarve. These sunny southern shores of Portugal are perfect for water-sports fans or for those wanting to get a few rounds of golf in whilst topping up the tan. But if you’re looking for a really relaxing holiday there’s nothing wrong with spending hours on the white sandy beaches or even lounging poolside.- whatever takes your fancy.
Now all there’s left to do is book the holiday!
