5 Minutes With Danny Mac

Danny-Mac

As a popular actor and singer from Hollyoaks and Strictly Come Dancing, Danny Mac runs a full schedule with rehearsals, shows and travelling. Given his busy week, we wanted to learn a bit more about his grooming habits and how he takes care of his skin no matter where he is.

What’s your morning routine like?

From a grooming perspective, I jump straight into the shower and use a face scrub or face wash; I use the scrub every couple of days and the face wash the rest of the days, sometimes even twice. I then go for a shave if I need to be clean-shaven for my current role. If it doesn’t involve being clean-shaven, I tend to give my skin a break and grow a bit of stubble. I always finish off with a good moisturiser – it’s a must for me. I also make sure to drink at least two pints of water first thing in the morning and I’ve already noticed the difference – especially when I’m playing roles that involve singing.

What’s your grooming philosophy?

There are a lot of products out there, especially in the men’s department, and you can easily overdo it. I try to keep things natural and simple – not use too many products on my face and make sure that the ones I do use are the right ones. It’s kind of on-trend now to want to take care of your skin and guys are now worrying about the health and longevity of their skin more than ever, especially when shaving. Putting a blade on your skin that way can be very abrasive, and I’ve really noticed a big difference with Cornerstone products – I was very impressed and they’ve been really helpful.

We’ve heard that you just got married. Tell us your grooming routine for the day.

I was in rehearsals for my new show, Sunset Boulevard, so I had to adapt my style to that of my character. It was nothing too drastic though! I went for a clean-shaven look, which is a great neutral and classic look – perfect for the pictures. I shaved the day before to have an even more natural look and got a haircut at my usual spot a few days before too.

What’s your top grooming tip? Something that you can’t live without?

I moisturise every day. I used to be a real sun worshiper and I wouldn’t wear sunscreen or anything. But as I’ve grown older, I’ve started using a moisturiser and sunscreen to protect my face. I wish I started doing that from an earlier age though.
