We wrote last month about shortcuts you can take to make yourself look as if you managed to get a good 8-hours the night before, even if you were up partying until the wee hours. But here are some hangover hacks to make yourself actually feel a little more human.
Hydrate
This was a big one for a fresher face, but the principle is the same here. Alcohol is a diuretic, which means you’ll be dehydrated after one too many drinks. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids; water and orange juice would be our suggestions – H20 to hydrate and Vitamin C from the OJ to give an overall feeling of wellness.
If you find yourself constantly hot and flustered when shifting last night’s excesses, try freezing orange juice into ice cubes.
Sweat it out
Exercising might be the last thing on your mind when you wake up after a heavy night. But exercising can really help sweat out last night’s toxins as well as take your mind off the hangover with endorphins. A word of warning though, you will need to hydrate even more than usual because of the alcohol dehydration, and then you’ll lose fluid from exercising.
If you really can’t face a run on the treadmill in your fragile state, hit the sauna for a bit. Sweat out the bad stuff, keep hydrating and little effort – a pretty nifty trifecta to beat the hangover.

(Some) Caffeine is your Friend
A little bit of coffee helps kick-start most people’s mornings, but when you’re feeling a little weak, it can hold the key to not getting those dreaded headaches. The reasoning is that caffeine is a vasodilator in the brain, increasing blood flow to the head and therefore relieving any would-be headaches.
Avocado or Bananas
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day; especially if you’re only hours removed from thinking that one last drink was a brilliant idea. You lose a lot of potassium after drinking alcohol; eating a banana or avocado will replenish some of those lost electrolytes. Usually you’re craving the worst kinds of food when you’re suffering as it’s the quickest option, but a balanced meal will definitely help with getting those lost nutrients into the body. Despite not being a cure, it’s a great way to ease those horrible symptoms.
The only way to fully cure a hangover is time! We’ve given you a few hacks to keep your hangover in check so as to feel as normal as possible, but time and rest to let your body do its thing in kicking out those toxins is the best way to get back to 100%.
